Oh Na Na..What’s My Name?

No this post isn’t about Rihanna….

notrihanna

Now that I think about it..I’ve been blogging for a while now. I probably still have a Xanga blog somewhere in the blogosphere. (Remember Xanga? I think its still around! Kind of what Myspace is now, compared to Facebook!) Then I had some other blog on Blogger that I deleted years ago. Anyways…back to what I was originally trying to say. I’ve been blogging for a few years now, mostly as a hobby.

When I started Mom In Love Forever it was definitely just a hobby. I was a stay-at-home mom and so I thought it would be fun to write about motherhood, fashion, beauty, etc. Mom In Love Forever was not always Mom-In-Love-Forever. Mom In Love Forever was once M.I.L.F And The City. That’s right…M.I.L.F And The City! And before you start talking smack, let me explain! I know what you guys are thinking..

My acronym for M.I.L.F is: Mom In Love Forever, not the dirty version that you were probably thinking ! I mean, honestly I should of thought about the name a little more. But at the time I really liked it,plus like I said, blogging was just a hobby. M.I.L.F And The City was my blog! I realized how much I enjoyed blogging and started to get more into it. I soon started attending events little by little.

It was always the same thing at events…

“Oh you’re a blogger? How wonderful! What’s the name of your blog?”

“M.I.L.F And The City….but let me explain..”

(Seeing the look of shock on their faces…They probably thought I was a porn star or something…)

“My acronym for M.I.L.F is Mom In Love Forever.”

(Insert cricket sound here)

“Oh,okay. That’s nice. Well enjoy the rest of your evening!”

Sigh….

newbanmatc.jpg

Some people actually liked the name of my blog.(Mostly my friends….) “M.I.L.F And The City!, That’s so cool, since you’re a M.I.L.F!” Haha, well uh,thanks! But you see where I’m going? The name was starting to backfire…Why are no PR companies hitting me up?! Don’t they want to work with M.I.L.F!!!  I had a twitter and barely had any followers..Who doesn’t want to follow @BklynMILF??? Whenever I got a new follower I would get so excited, but most times it was just a fake nasty sex account. Sigh…Let’s not even talk about Facebook…

Like I said, blogging started to become more than a hobby. I managed to snag a few sponsored posts. Thanks Eden Fantasys! But I knew my name had to change. I could no longer be M.I.L.F And The City…What would I become? Mom In Love Forever And The City? No,that was too long…I settled on Mom In Love Forever. I even changed my twitter handle to @BklynMamaLatina. ( @MomInLoveForever was 1 character too long.. darn it!)People actually started following me on Twitter!Facebook… Well at the time,I couldn’t change my name, plus I didn’t want to risk losing my 34 ‘likes’ I had. (Even though,I’m sure most of those ‘likes’ were my friends & family! )

I was now Mom In Love Forever. It’s amazing what a difference the name change made! The emails started coming in,people started following me. People actually started reading my blog! Most of my traffic wasn’t coming from people googling the term “M.I.L.F”.I was eventually even able to change my Facebook page name to Mom In Love Forever! (Still not many ‘Likes’ though….sigh…)

So you see, a name makes such a huge difference. It’s your brand and how you want to sell yourself. I may no longer be M.I.L.F And The City…but I am still a M.I.L.F…umm,I mean..Mom In Love Forever… ;)

**FYI..I am no longer @BklynMamaLatina on Twitter..I live in New Jersey now,so I felt like a fraud. I almost changed it to @NJMamaLatina, but it was taken, just kidding! I just didn’t want to have to change my name every time I move! I am now @LovelyVirginia on Twitter,so follow me, and please, please, pleaseeee ‘Like’ me on Facebook!**

Bloggy Conference 2013

                                                          Image via BloggyMoms

There are so many social media conferences out there. I’ve only gone to one so far and the only real reason I was able to go was because I was a volunteer, therefore I got a free conference ticket to attend. Also the conference was taking place in NYC,so it was super convenient. The same conference is in Chicago this year,so who knows what the future holds.

I had such an amazing experience at the one blogger conference I’ve gone to so far. I learned so much and met some really awesome people. I was also able to connect with some really great brands. My blog means a lot to me,so being able to attend these social media conferences would really help me to enhance my blog.

There are so many conferences throughout the year. One conference I would love to attend is the Bloggy Conference. I’ve been a member of Bloggy Moms for almost a year now and the women on that site are awesome! They definitely show you lots of support. I almost went last year but last minute opted not to do so because I knew it was truly not in my budget to go.

Looking at the re-caps on everyone’s blogs made me wish I had been there. It looked like everyone had an amazing time, made some great friendships (Since they got to meet some people in real life), and most importantly went home with the knowledge on how to make improvements in their blogs.

I would love to opportunity to attend the Bloggy Conference this year, but even if I am unable to,at the end of the day I’ll always be a Bloggy Mom! =)

This post is an entry into the Building Blog Bridges giveaway I have entered for a chance to win one Bloggy Conference 2013 ticket.

Sunday Fun-day

Today Gabbalicious and I headed to the city for a little fun. (I also had to drop her off with her daddy) I figured we might as well get in a few hours of fun before leaving with her dad. They are off to Atlanta tomorrow. Lucky kiddo travels more then me! The weather was absolutely perfect today! I wish it were like this all the time..We had a blast at the playground in Union Square Park. It’s one of my favorites in the city! We also hung out at Barnes & Nobles for a bit before meeting up with her daddy. If you live in NYC (or anywhere nearby) I would definitely recommend checking out the playground at Union Square!

I hope everyone had a Sunday Fun-day too!

My Little Package

I recently won a reader appreciation giveaway that Crystel Megan was hosting on her blog,BeautifulBad I was so excited to be a winner since I rarely win anything . Lol

Yesterday was such a rainy day,so it was a pleasant surprise to see the package Crystel sent me,sitting in the rain waiting for me. (See Crystel..wrapping it in hella tape ended up working out after all :p ) It was seriously the highlight of my day!

Check out the goodies that were in the box :

I loved everything in the box. The Marc Jacobs lipstick pen was my favorite! In love candles so I was excited about that. I actually needed a nail file so that came in handy. Lol I love false eyelashes so that was another fun goodie to get. I really loved the little coin pouch. It reminded me of Guatemala. I wonder if it was made there ? The fabric looks like it is,which is why I love it. I’m half Guatemalan so I love things that remind me of my roots. And last but not least, the lollipop. Gabby enjoyed it. LOL

Thank you so much Crystel Megan. Everyone check out the BeautifulBad blog and follow Crystel on Twitter. Crystel is a sweetheart, you won’t regret following her!

Thanks for my gift hun! :)

Busy Bee

Hey everyone! Sorry if I’ve been a little MIA. Life has been rather busy lately. However, there are a lot of exciting things coming up soon! For starters I will be attending the BlogHer conference here in NYC this upcoming weekend. I am super excited. I’ll finally be able to meet some of the fabulous people I chat with via twitter, etc in person! I’m nervous but VERY excited to attend #BlogHer12 ! =)  I’ll be volunteering this year, so look out for me. I’ll be a mic wrangler for a few of the sessions!

Another HUGE thing going on in my life right now is that we are moving to JERSEY! That’s right…NEW JERSEY! That’s what I get for talking sh*t about the “Dirty Jerz” . LOL Just Kidding!! But all jokes aside,honestly-sometimes opportunities are thrown your way and well its only smart to take them. I want what’s best for my family and right now moving will benefit us immensely! Who wants to help me pack?? I hate packing! LOL

So get ready for us Jersey! Gabby and I will be ready to take over! Fist pumping and all!

If anyone is attending BlogHer, please don’t be shy! Say Hello! =)

Weekend Recap

This past weekend Gabby and I headed up to the New England area. Our 1st stop was Boston. We were only there for a few hours. We had lunch with my friend Danielle and her son Mateo. We were going to go to the Children’s Museum but were short on time. We’ll be back soon Boston! While in Boston we also ran into my friend Sabina who was heading to New Hampshire as well.

New Hampshire is so nice! If I wasn’t such a major city girl, I’d seriously consider moving there. It’s so beautiful and way more peaceful then the busy city life. And way more affordable! NYC is so expensive to live in! While in New Hampshire we stayed with my friend Jesseca and her daughter Alexia in Manchester. We had a great time. We took the girls to a local pool on Saturday where they had a blast. I wish the pools in NYC looked like the pool there! LOL Seriously, super cool pool for kids!

Sunday was a very special day. We headed over to Peterborough,NH to visit this camp we   both used to work at for an Alumni Day. I used to be a camper then eventually became a counselor at this camp. It was so great to see some familiar faces. My friend is now the director at the girls camp. It’s always so nice to see someone move up the ranks. She is doing an awesome job at running the camp. Keep it up Miss Cann! =)

Being at the camp brought back so many wonderful memories. I also felt kinda old since some of my old campers were now on staff or old enough to be on staff! It was also very nice because there were tons of alumni kids there. All future campers! I can’t wait til Gabriella is old enough to go experience it for herself. I know she is going to love it!

We had a great weekend. I hope everyone else did too!

Embarrassing Beauty Disasters Solved #DoveBeauty #Spon

This post is sponsored by Dove® ClearTone™ Deodorant – designed to visibly reduce underarm dark marks and even skin tone.

Beauty disasters. It happens to all of us. Here are some tips and tricks that I’ve tried :

BLEMISHES:  I never had really bad acne. (KNOCK ON WOOD!!! ) But I do get an occasionally blemish here and there. Mostly when Aunty Flo comes to visit. Sorry if it’s TMI… LOL Anywho. ..Some people say it’s a myth and doesn’t actually work, but I swear when I do get a pimple and put some tooth paste on that sucker, the next day it is much smaller when I wake up.  Lol

If I do plan on going out, I just put a little concealer with a small concealer brush and lightly top it off with a little powder to set the concealer.

Under Eye Circles-  I suffer from under eye circles quite often due to my lack of sleep!(Like today) I seriously need to start sleeping more!  One of my favorite tricks, asides from obviously putting on hella concealer is the Frozen Spoon trick.  I usually keep a few spoons in the freezer because like I said- lack of sleep. LOL  Put the cold spoons under your eyes until they get warm, this helps to reduce the swelling. I also like using cucumbers. Cut 2 slices and put them under your eyes for 15 minutes. The vitamins plus the cold compression of the cucumber help with the puffiness and swelling.

Under eye circles!

Frizzy Hair- My hair is curly. Very curly. I usually pack a little bag with some makeup for touch ups and gel or something to fix my hair, but of course I sometimes forget things.  To avoid looking like a poodle if I do indeed forget my hair product on the go-then I just use a little hand moisturizer if I have that handy, to tame my mane.  If you have straight hair or thin hair be careful not to use too much, otherwise your hair can result in looking oily.  But seriously, I’ve put lotion in my hair numerous times. (Just yesterday as a matter of fact).

These are a few tips and tricks I use. Do you have any? Share some in the comments section. I’d love to hear them!

To all the daddies..mommies playing daddies…etc…etc..Happy Father’s Day!  I feel very lucky and fortunate that Gabriella has such an awesome daddy! Even though we are not together we get along really well. No “babymama/baby daddy” (I hate those 2 terms by the way!) drama here!! Thanks for being such a great daddy Payton! =)
