My Shade Of Brown

I was so excited when I received my July Pillow Box from MY SHADE OF BROWN! MY SHADE OF BROWN caters to women of color. My daughter is bi-racial and I’m “mixed” and  we both have very curly-curly hair! I love that MY SHADE OF BROWN tailors to the needs of women of color. I always trying new products and well sometimes those products don’t quite work out. That’s why I’m excited about this monthly subscription service because  I will now be able to test some things out before buying them!

The July Pillow Box I received was pretty cool. Much better then the other box I received  from a different  monthly subscription service. I’ve been using the Lemon Sugar Creme Daily Moisturizing Balm from BUTTERFLY BEAUTE on my face the last few days. I think I’m going to consider buying the full sized product. It feels really nice on my skin. I love that it’s made almost entirely of organic ingredients! Another product in my Pillow Box from BUTTERFLY BEAUTE that I am really enjoying is the JUICY MIST. I’ve been carrying this around in my purse and using it to refresh my curly hair throughout the day. I love how it smells!

The Pomegranate Kiwi Sugar Polish from POOKA PURE and SIMPLE was amazing! My skin felt baby soft after using it! This is another item I plan to purchase. The only item I didn’t try out yet was the Nail Art Pen from MASH NAILS. They did send a full sized nail pen though which is pretty cool. I can’t wait to test it out!

MY SHADE OF BROWN is $10 a month and you receive 4-5 deluxe sized samples. I really enjoyed my July box and will be signing up as a subscriber! I am looking forward to seeing what the August Pillow Box will have to offer! If you love monthly  subscription  services, then sign up for MY SHADE OF BROWN. You will not be disappointed!

Weekend Recap

This past weekend Gabby and I headed up to the New England area. Our 1st stop was Boston. We were only there for a few hours. We had lunch with my friend Danielle and her son Mateo. We were going to go to the Children’s Museum but were short on time. We’ll be back soon Boston! While in Boston we also ran into my friend Sabina who was heading to New Hampshire as well.

New Hampshire is so nice! If I wasn’t such a major city girl, I’d seriously consider moving there. It’s so beautiful and way more peaceful then the busy city life. And way more affordable! NYC is so expensive to live in! While in New Hampshire we stayed with my friend Jesseca and her daughter Alexia in Manchester. We had a great time. We took the girls to a local pool on Saturday where they had a blast. I wish the pools in NYC looked like the pool there! LOL Seriously, super cool pool for kids!

Sunday was a very special day. We headed over to Peterborough,NH to visit this camp we   both used to work at for an Alumni Day. I used to be a camper then eventually became a counselor at this camp. It was so great to see some familiar faces. My friend is now the director at the girls camp. It’s always so nice to see someone move up the ranks. She is doing an awesome job at running the camp. Keep it up Miss Cann! =)

Being at the camp brought back so many wonderful memories. I also felt kinda old since some of my old campers were now on staff or old enough to be on staff! It was also very nice because there were tons of alumni kids there. All future campers! I can’t wait til Gabriella is old enough to go experience it for herself. I know she is going to love it!

We had a great weekend. I hope everyone else did too!

Embarrassing Beauty Disasters Solved #DoveBeauty #Spon

Beauty disasters. It happens to all of us. Here are some tips and tricks that I’ve tried :

BLEMISHES:  I never had really bad acne. (KNOCK ON WOOD!!! ) But I do get an occasionally blemish here and there. Mostly when Aunty Flo comes to visit. Sorry if it’s TMI… LOL Anywho. ..Some people say it’s a myth and doesn’t actually work, but I swear when I do get a pimple and put some tooth paste on that sucker, the next day it is much smaller when I wake up.  Lol

If I do plan on going out, I just put a little concealer with a small concealer brush and lightly top it off with a little powder to set the concealer.

Under Eye Circles-  I suffer from under eye circles quite often due to my lack of sleep!(Like today) I seriously need to start sleeping more!  One of my favorite tricks, asides from obviously putting on hella concealer is the Frozen Spoon trick.  I usually keep a few spoons in the freezer because like I said- lack of sleep. LOL  Put the cold spoons under your eyes until they get warm, this helps to reduce the swelling. I also like using cucumbers. Cut 2 slices and put them under your eyes for 15 minutes. The vitamins plus the cold compression of the cucumber help with the puffiness and swelling.

Under eye circles!

Frizzy Hair- My hair is curly. Very curly. I usually pack a little bag with some makeup for touch ups and gel or something to fix my hair, but of course I sometimes forget things.  To avoid looking like a poodle if I do indeed forget my hair product on the go-then I just use a little hand moisturizer if I have that handy, to tame my mane.  If you have straight hair or thin hair be careful not to use too much, otherwise your hair can result in looking oily.  But seriously, I’ve put lotion in my hair numerous times. (Just yesterday as a matter of fact).

These are a few tips and tricks I use. Do you have any? Share some in the comments section. I’d love to hear them!

Dare to Bare #DoveBeauty #Spon

This post is sponsored by Dove® ClearTone™ Deodorant – designed to visibly reduce underarm dark marks and even skin tone.

Summer time is the season when your body is most exposed. I personally love the summer. Nothing like the warmth of the sun on my skin! I absolutely despise winter. Being cold is not my thing.  I love rocking dresses, shorts and skirts in the summer! (Actually, year long..I just throw on some cool tights in the colder weather. ) To keep my skin smooth all summer long here is what I do :

Body Scrub-  I like to make an at home body scrub. It’s much cheaper than buying something at the store. What I do is mix sugar (I like to use white sugar because the grain isn’t as rough ), and a little olive oil. I rub that all over my body, really focusing on any rough spots! Ladies, don’t forget your arm pits!!! You can exfoliate there too!  This scrub makes my skin feel so soft and smooth. I don’t do this every day. Just every once in a while. Over exfoliating isn’t good either!

Shaving-  To de-fuzz the hair on my body ,I like to use a 4 blade razor and some good moisturizing shaving cream!  Shaving after exfoliating  makes my legs feel silky smooth! Don’t forget your armpits! Especially if you plan on wearing tanktops, etc.  Exfoliating your armpits and shaving with a good razor will help prevent irritation which can cause dark marks on your armpits!

Body Wash- Since my skin is a little on the dry side I love using Dove Deep Moisture Nourishing Body Wash with NutriumMoisture™ . This body wash really moisturizes my skin and makes it feel so soft!

Moisturizing –  After my shower I like to moisturize with good ol’ extra virgin coconut oil. I use coconut oil for EVERYTHING. I use it on my body and hair. I even heard it has health benefits if you eat it! But seriously coconut oil is amazing! I like to slather some of my feet, put on a pair of socks and go to sleep. When I wake up my feet are nice and soft!

Under Arms- For my armpits I like to use Dove Clear Tone™ Sheer Touch Deodorant.  This deodorant helps to visibly reduce dark marks and even tone  with regular use over time. It also provides odor and wetness protection.  And best of all no nasty stains on your clothing!

This is my little regimen to keep my skin silky smooth and ready to bare  in the summer time. What’s your summer time dare to bare regimen?

wet n wild

Yesterday while running into a Rite Aid quickly to pick up some things, I of course quickly checked out the makeup section. I love going to Rite Aid for drug store makeup they always have some sort of promotion going on. Who doesn’t love a great deal on already affordable products?!

I ended up buying 2 lipsticks from Wet n Wild. The colors I got were 966 Don’t Blink Pink and 969 24 Carrot Gold . Both colors were from the Mega Last Lip Color collection. I love the lipsticks! I love that they are semi-matte and they last long!

Don’t the colors look fabulous? You don’t have to spend a lot of money on makeup. Some drug store brands are just as good as the higher end department store stuff! Trust me, I used to work at a makeup counter at Nordstrom. Same goes with clothes, not everything has to be designer labels. Anywho, I hope everyone is having a great week!
