Chulita’s Famous

This past Saturday I attended The Mamas Expo at the NY Hall of Science in Queens. I had a really awesome time! One of the vendors at the expo was Chulita’s Famous. I immediately gravitated towards their table. The Latina in me could smell the sofrito from afar! Gloribell Taveras, one of the co-founders was there and she was super friendly!

SOFRITO

I got  samples of the Sofrito con Spices and Sofrito Verde.  I’m so excited I finally got to test one of them out today!

Grilled Chicken with Sofrito Verde:

Last Night
*Cut up 2 pieces of  skinless, bonesless, chicken breasts into small chunks.
* I added one good spoonful of the Sofrito Verde
(It is very potent, so a little goes a long way! )
*I let it marinate over night
Today:
*Heated a non stick pan to medium temperature and added a little bit of olive oil
*Threw in the chicken and added a little pepper
*Cooked the chicken until it was golden brown
The chicken came out delicious!
I made rice with some habichuela’s on the side as well.
My mom loved it!
Mind you…I DO NOT..I repeat..I DO NOT enjoy to cook for the most part..

However,I am very excited to test out the Sofrito con Spices!
So keep an eye out for another food post soon! =)

THINK LIKE A MAN?…Dating….

I recently went to the theatre to go see THINK LIKE A MAN with my friend Melissa. The movie was really funny. Kevin Hart is ridiculous but very hilarious! My friend and I were cracking up the entire time. Some of the men in the movie were definitely eye candy. Michael Ealy…hello!  LOL  The movie was cool. I could relate to some stuff, my friend Melissa as well. The whole situation with the single mother I could somewhat relate to. Dating when you have a child is wayyyy different!

For starters, I don’t consider myself a single mother. But more on that later…Gabriella’s father and I most definitely co-parent. He is an awesome father! =)

There have been situations where I meet a guy, he seems to be digging me, but the minute he finds out I have a child it’s like “oh….cool”….. EXCUSEEE ME! I’m not looking for you be play daddy.  My daughter already has one. Thank you very much!!

Other situations I encounter are guys not being understanding that I’m not free to hang whenever you please. My child comes 1st! If you don’t comprehend that, then keep it moving! Smh…

Then there are those guys who just want a “booty call“… no thanks..

Then of course there is the really nice guy…no attraction..

sigh….

I’ve been single for months now. And that’s ok. I’m very picky when it comes to guys. Now more then ever! I feel like sometimes people don’t have standards and just date whomever. I have gone out on a few dates, but I haven’t met anyone worth going to the next step with.  And that’s ok. I haven’t given up on love. Prince Charming is out there somewhere, right?

Girl In Progress Screening

I was lucky enough to attend an early screening of GIRL IN PROGRESS a few days ago. The movie was nice. I love mother-daughter flicks. I could definitely relate to how Ansieda (Cierra Ramirez) felt at times. Eva Mendes’ character Grace also reminded me of my mother a bit when I was growing up. Not that my mother was immature… She was just never really there. She was always working.  Working hard to provide me with a good life.

As a mother the movie taught me and reminded how important communication is, and how important it is to pay attention to your children. Sometimes you can miss the smallest things that can eventually turn into a bigger issue! It also scared me a bit..I wonder how Gabriella is going to be like as a teenager! LOL

Asides from Girl In Progress being a mother-daughter flick, I loved that the actors cast in the movie were mostly latinos. There was a lot I could relate to,since I myself am a latina. (I love how Ansiedad ate pan con cafe every morning! My mom still does that!)It’s nice to see latino’s doing their thing in Hollywood! Cierra Ramirez definitely has a bright future in front of her!

The movie hits theatres May 11th and I highly recommend you go see it! It’ll be a nice Mother’s Day treat!
