As pregnancy progresses over nine months for a woman, so does the number on the scale. An expectant mother may begin to wonder how she will ever get the weight off. Establishing a weight loss game plan, even before the arrival of the baby can help a new mommy get back into her “pre-baby” clothes before she knows it.
Before starting an exercise regimen, a woman should speak to her doctor about her plans for weight loss and getting back in shape. Just as a doctor provided guidance in her questions about post-delivery options for baby, like umbilical cord blood banking and circumcision, a doctor should help guide a mother in her post-delivery options.
Breastfeeding is a great way to lose some of that baby weight. Once of the greatest and most unexpected perks of breastfeeding is the large amount of calories burned while nursing. Most women burn about 700 calories each day by breastfeeding alone. Even without any other supplemental workouts, some women can manage to lose much of the weight gained during pregnancy just by breastfeeding.
Walking is another great option for getting back into shape. No matter the age of the baby, they always seem to enjoy a nice walk; and by getting out for a daily stroll, a new mommy can burn some major calories. Walking outside can also improve an individual’s overall mood. Those who work out regularly in a group are more likely to stick with a fitness routine since there is the support of the group. Finding fellow neighborhood mommies to walk with can provide a new mommy with the support needed to lose weight.
Weight training is also beneficial in helping a new mom get back into shape. Lifting weights is an activity that even the most stationary individual can do in the comfort of their home. Hand weights are very inexpensive and don’t take up too much space. While new moms have very little spare time, weight lighting is so simple, that it can get it done while watching a favorite TV show.
Fitness DVDs are a handy go-to option for new moms looking for a structured workout. Thankfully, there are work-out DVDs for just about every possible type of fitness routine out there. Some of the most popular fitness DVDs among new moms are Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30, Tony Horton’s P90X, or those looking for a real challenge may consider the Insanity Workout.
Most women are surprised to learn exactly how many calories they burn by just cleaning the house. Cleaning is a daunting task and with a new baby, the daily cleaning chores have likely tripled. Pushing a mop, unloading a dishwasher, folding clothes, and sweeping floors all require the use of energy and will help moms lose weight fast.
It’s no secret that new mothers have very little time to work on getting back into shape, but with so many fast and simple solutions for losing weight, there is no reason why any mother cannot get her pre-baby body back.
